In The Riding: February 3rd

Further investments by our government into Northwestern Ontario this past week.

As we wrapped up January and welcomed February, I was busy making a few announcements on behalf of Minister Greg Rickford (Northern Development, Indigenous Affairs).

Female Boarder Collective

On Monday I unveiled $68,890 which will allow the Female Boarder Collective to create a pair of internships at the Cinema 5 Skatepark through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC).

As Minister Rickford stated on Twitter, investments like these provide on-the-job career development and create job opportunities for Northern communities.

Health Care Interns

Then on Thursday it was a commitment of $255,752 through the NOHFC for eight job opportunities that will develop our health sciences workforce:

  • $140,000 for the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre to hire 4 Research Assistant Interns
  • $105,000 for the Thunder Bay Regional Health Research Institute to hire 3 Research Assistant Interns
  • $10,752 for the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre to hire a Human Resources Intern

These investments demonstrate how, together with our northern partners, we are building strong, vibrant communities and creating real opportunities for the people who live in the North.
