Minister Piccini Visit / Announcement

I am thrilled to extend a warm and heartfelt thank you to the Minister of Environment, Conservation and Parks David Piccini for his visit to Thunder Bay.

It was a great honour to have him here in our community, where he had the opportunity to tour Resolute Forest Products and learn more about their operations. Additionally, the Minister’s announcement at Lakehead University regarding the $29 million investment to support and protect boreal caribou and their habitat in Ontario was truly exciting news for our region.

NOHFC Investments in Local Projects

Proud to unveil a Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) investment of more than $435,156 for eight development projects in the area — a sign that these businesses are supported and encouraged to grow.

Since June 2018, the NOHFC has invested over $75 million in 999 projects across the region, creating or sustaining 1,173 jobs.

North Shore Steelhead Association 50th Anniversary

Happy to join the sold out crowd at the Valhalla Inn tonight in support of the North Shore Steelhead Association. This year marks the organization’s 50th anniversary and its 38th dinner auction.

100% of the money raised at tonight’s dinner auction goes to support the great work that they are doing in our region. Congratulations to the many volunteers that put on tonight’s event for another very successful and fun evening.

Local Hockey Playoffs

Exciting news for hockey fans in Thunder Bay! The Bill Salonen Cup Playoffs begin in the Superior International Junior Hockey League. Our very own Thunder Bay North Stars are kicking off the quarter-finals against the Red Lake Miners.

I’m proud to support the North Stars as they represent our community on the ice. Also, a big shoutout to the Kam River Fighting Walleye who earned a bye into the semi-finals.

Adult & Teen Challenge Facility Tour

I recently had the opportunity to tour the Adult & Teen Challenge of Central Canada facility and was blown away by the incredible work being done to help those struggling with addiction.

I saw firsthand the dedication and compassion of the staff as they provide a safe and supportive environment for those on their journey to recovery.

Ground Braking for Sports Dome

It was a big day in Thunder Bay as we broke ground on the future air supported dome at Chapples Park.

The addition of this dome will allow us to host large indoor racquet events and meet the needs of the growing pickleball community!

PDAC Conference

The PDAC Conference is the perfect opportunity to meet people from all walks of life, from businesses and politicians to everyday people!

This event is an incredible opportunity to get together and discuss what’s happening in the mining industry.

New CEO of Atikokan General

I am delighted to announce that Jennifer Learning will become the new CEO of the Atikokan General Hospital on March 27th!

I am excited for what Learning will bring to this new role, and I know she will make a great successor to Jorge VanSlyke.

Ontario Expanding Cancer Coverage for Firefighters

Firefighters put their lives on the line to protect us, which can sadly lead to work-related cancers.

Ontario is standing with these heroes by proposing changes that would give them faster and easier access to compensation and support their recovery.
