October 20th 2025

Thunder Bay ― The Ontario government is providing Schreiber and Dorion Townships in Northwestern Ontario with $41,000 in funding through the Ontario Trillium Foundation’s (OTF) Capital grant stream. This investment will make it easier for local residents to access the programming, activities, and community spaces that make our region a great place to live, work, and raise a family.

“Our small communities depend on facilities like curling rinks, museums, and sports fields to bring people together and improve quality of life. “said Kevin Holland, MPP for Thunder Bay – Atikokan. “Its great to see that our government is investing in Dorion and Schreiber Townships, ensuring that these spaces remain accessible and vibrant for generations to come. Thank you to the local leaders and volunteers whose dedication makes these projects possible.”

OTF’s Capital grant stream helps organizations improve their infrastructure so they can continue delivering programs and services that Ontarians need to thrive. Whether it’s purchasing equipment, building a new space or completing renovations, retrofits or repairs, these grants support projects that strengthen communities across the province.

Organizations receiving funding include:

  • $18,300 to replace their aged baseball field scoreboard and PA system to enhance one of their main locations for community gatherings.
  • $22,700 to build a new barrier-free ramp and deck at the Dorion Museum ensuring that history and culture remain accessible to everyone.

These capital grants are part of the more than $28 million supporting 300 local programs and services that help deliver critical community programming across the province.

The capital program is part of the government’s plan to protect Ontario by supporting workers, businesses, communities and jobs in the face of ongoing economic uncertainty, while creating a solid foundation for a strong, resilient and competitive future.

“Across Ontario, non-profit organizations are delivering critical programming that is helping people train for new careers, stay active, learn new things and connect with their community – that’s why capital grant support is so important,” said Stan Cho, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Gaming. “Now more than ever, it is crucial we support homegrown experiences that build stronger communities, strengthen local economies and celebrate our collective identity. This funding will help ensure facilities and spaces are accessible, modern and central to communities across our province.”
