Province Funding to Help French Public School

Pleased to speak about the Public French language school, which will open at the former Edgewater School site in September 2023.

The province provided $1.2 million to help with this venture, including the installation of an elevator and to renovate the washrooms.

NOHFC Investments in Thunder Bay

Pleased to be alongside Greg Rickford to announce more than $2 million to help manufacturing companies in Thunder Bay.

The investment comes from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) and include:

Transitional Housing Investment

Happy to join Steve Clark today to announce a $2.1 million investment to help create 21 transitional housing units at the Matawa First Nations Training and Wellness Centre

The renovated building will include a trades school, secondary school courses as well as family programming

Minister Lecce Visit to Superior Collegiate & Vocational Institute

I was honoured to have Stephen Lecce in Thunder Bay as we visited Superior Collegiate & Vocational Institute to chat with students and teachers involved in the Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) program.

The program allows students to focus their learning on a specific economic sector while meeting the requirements of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD)

Stephen Lecce and I also enjoyed learning a lot on a class field trip to Fort William Historical Park alongside students from École Secondaire Catholique De La Verendrye.

Minister Clark Visit

It was great to have Minister Clark visit Thunder Bay today to make an important funding announcement. We also had valuable discussions with local stakeholders on addressing the housing supply needs in the city and district.

I’m very fortunate to serve as Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister.

Minister Tibollo and I met executives from the Ontario Native Women’s Association on a variety of topics.

It was great to sit down with this dedicated group to learn more about their efforts and how we can continue to work together.

I joined Minister Tibollo at a reception with Bikiiwewining-Nindawaashishiiminaan where we had the opportunity to speak to residential school survivors and hear their stories.

Minister Tibollo spoke about our governments commitment to continue to consult and support indigenous groups and communities as we work towards reconciliation.

Opening of Vale Cooper Cliff South Mine

I joined Premier Ford and Minister Pirie at the opening of Vale Copper Cliff South mine in Sudbury. We were provided an overview of their operations including going 1.5 miles underground.

I also had the opportunity that evening to speak with mining company executives about opportunities for Thunder Bay. It was a very productive visit.

A productive meeting with Thunder Bay CEDC CEO Jamie Taylor as we discuss ways to showcase Thunder Bay as a place to live, work and play

ALSTOM Meeting

Productive meeting with ALSTOM officials as we look at ways to get more work for workers in Thunder Bay.

Parks Canada Nominations Meeting

Really appreciate the invite from Parks Canada to hear about the process for nominating places, persons and events which shaped the history of Canada.

Most recent designations in Thunder Bay include Terry Fox, the former Finnish Labour Temple, and the Grain Transshipment at the Lakehead.

Meeting with Conservation Officers

Happy to meet with conservation officers from across the province, including Graham Dunville from Thunder Bay and Matt McVittie from Parry Sound.

I appreciate the important service that they provide to Ontario.

Meeting with Peggy Brekveld

Great to meet with The President of Ontario Federation of Agriculture Peggy Brekveld.

We discussed a number of topics, including supporting mental health and safety concerns for workers through the Enhanced Agri‐Food Workplace Protection Program.

I was Happy to attend mass and dinner to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of St. Casimir’s Parish. Congratulations to the congregation on this milestone occasion.

Also happy to see our government invest Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) dollars to help the Borderland Snowmobile Club to reroute 25 kilometres that uses the Little Turtle road between Mine Centre and Atikokan.

I used that trail to take part in Snowarama in support of Easter Seals Kids.

Great Day in Thunder Bay

It was a great day meeting and talking with people in and around Thunder Bay. Started the day talking with the volunteers of the Thunder Bay Adventure Trails and learned more about their hopes for new trails and replacement of a bridge damaged in flooding this spring. Great group doing great things to increase tourism in the area.

Next we stopped by and visited the many craft vendors at the Heritage Building on the CLE grounds. Wrapped up the day at the Walleye game in Stanley. It was a great game and the boys earned another “W”. 5-0 shutout. Way to go boys!!!!

Talking with Future Voters

Kicked off the week talking to future voters at St. Ann Elementary School

Lots of great questions from the students, who are learning about the different levels of government.

United Way Reception

I stopped at the Sleeping Giant Brewery for the United Way “Leaders of the Way” reception. Thank you to all the generous donors that support the great work that United Way does in our communities.

I look forward to talking with the executives of United Way to see how their organization and our government can continue to work together to achieve even better results for our region.

Passing of Herb Adduono

Sending my condolences to the Adduono family. “Herbie” was a fixture on the ice and around the rinks during my time playing hockey as child.

I will remember him fondly and thank him for inspiring so many young hockey players over the years.
